There are many ways to alleviate varicose vein pain, home treatments are available, and these are so simple that in fact anyone can probably do them.
Before you decide to seek professional medical help that can cost a lot of money, try these simple exercises to help lessen or even suppress pain from your varicose veins.
Take a Break from Standing
Sometimes the best cures require the simplest thing. If you are being bothered by the pain caused by your varicose veins, then take a break from standing too long and too often.
Flex your feet
Flexing the muscle in your legs may help force blood upward and out of the veins.
While seated — and even while your feet are raised — try these three exercises to really get the blood flowing out of you and returning to your heart:
- The Pump: Bend your foot up and down as you would when you push a piano pedal or gas pedal.
- Ankle Circles: Move your ankles in a clockwise and counterclockwise manner.
- Heel Slips: With your legs bent, slide your heels to and fro.
Sleep with raised feet
For those with chronic swelling in the feet, it may help to put a few pillows under them while you are sleeping.
Wear Lower Heeled Footwear
Footwear with lower heels require your Achilles heel to do more work — a plus for better circulation — than high-heeled shoes.
Wear Running shoes
If your feet habitually swell, it may be worthwhile to put on footwear or other lace-up shoes that can be opened up or relaxed to alleviate the stress and allow for freer circulation.
Your outfits, that is.
Stay away from pants or other outfits that are tight at the waist or groin; they can act almost as tourniquets that restrict blood vessels circulation at these important circulation points.
